Fried eggs are always a tasty choice for breakfast or lunch. Whether you are having them atop avocado toast, rice or any other dish, they are ready in minutes and are one of the simplest methods of cooking eggs.

Nevertheless, one drawback of a fried egg is that they are quite difficult to enhance with flavour. Unlike scrambled eggs, you can't easily add cheese or cream for additional taste, and sauces can sometimes simply slide off.

However, according to one food writer, the key lies in adding your flavour enhancers directly to the pan before cracking the egg in.

Greek food blogger Mia Kouppa suggests adding one straightforward ingredient to your fried eggs for exceptionally crispy and flavourful results - and it's feta cheese.

She said: "It's is a quick and absolutely delicious way to make fried egg. It only requires a few ingredients, is ready in under 10 minutes, and needs almost no cooking skill. The best part is how the feta melts but also gets super crispy in areas."

One reason this recipe is so effective is that the feta will not turn into a gooey mess in the pan - instead it will develop a nice crust that complements the egg beautifully. Combined with a touch of olive oil, it's the ideal quick recipe you will want to make time and time again.

Heat your olive oil over a medium heat in a small frying pan. Scatter the crumbled feta in a circle around the edge of the pan, leaving the centre empty - ideally large enough to fit the yolk of the egg.

Sprinkle the red pepper flakes over the feta.

Cook until you see and hear the feta sizzling and beginning to melt, which should take a couple of minutes.
